Renewable Power with Blue Energy

Fresh and Salt Water Meet
Westus, a Dutch water technology research institute has been working on harnessing blue energy to help resolve the global energy situation. Currently, they have developed prototypes of windmills that don’t run off of wind energy but water energy.
Blue energy is the power created when salt water and fresh water meet. The idea is to create renewable energy centers all over the planet where rivers meet the ocean. The technical name for Blue Energy is RED (reverse electrodialysis) and in essence, the process harnesses the energy released from osmosis. The saltwater and fresh water are combined in an alternating series of ion-exchange membranes. The membranes are what harvests the energy released when the fresh water and saltwater begin to mix together.
