Save Your Skin with Natural Sunscreens
Wrapping up our closer look at the 5 Eco Tips for Summer, today is all about protecting your skin. Commercial sunscreens contain parabens, which are estrogenic and can mimic the estrogen hormone in the human body. This is the same reason that BPA containing plastics are being banned in certain areas of the world. They also contain Octyl-dimethyl-PABA (OD-PABA), Octyl-methoxycinnemate (OMC), 4-methyl-benzylidene camphor (4-MBC) and Homosalate (HMS) all of which are human endocrine disruptors.
The best way to protect your skin in a green way is by using organic and natural sunscreens. Normally, the main ingredient for natural sunscreens is either titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. These two work by forming a barrier between your skin and the sun to block bothUVB and UVA rays. It is important to use a sunscreen that supports coverage for both UVA and UVB rays because of the damage that can be done to the skin. Overall, it is recommended that we keep covered with a natural blocking sunscreen of at least SPF 15 for year round protection.
