2 Billion Business Pact for Going Green

Working togetherA Spanish company dedicated to renewable eneregy and construction, Acciona signed a pact with Japan’s Mitsubishi today to invest over 2 billion Euros in creating world wide sustainable energy projects.

The deal is set for the next three years in which both companies will work together in developing water management and treatment, sustainable transportation and construction and renewable forms of power.

Fresh and Salt Water Meet

Westus, a Dutch water technology research institute has been working on harnessing blue energy to help resolve the global energy situation.  Currently, they have developed prototypes of windmills that don’t  run off of wind energy but water energy.

Blue energy is the power created when salt water and fresh water meet. The idea is to create renewable energy centers all over the planet where rivers meet the ocean. The technical name for Blue Energy is RED (reverse electrodialysis) and in essence, the process harnesses the energy released from osmosis. The saltwater and fresh water are combined in an alternating series of ion-exchange membranes. The membranes are what harvests the energy released when the fresh water and saltwater begin to mix together.
